What are the Most Current and Effective Instagram Strategies?

How to Optimize Social Media Marketing Effort

When it comes to optimizing any social media platform for reach and engagement, there are a few simple rules to remember.

  • Facebook wants users to stay on Facebook.
  • Twitter wants users to stay on Twitter
  • etc.
  • Every major social media platform out there makes money by selling ad space to businesses that want to reach customers. The only way to reach these potential customers is for them to be on the platform.

So, whenever you are looking to create content for a platform, keep this rule in mind.

    Best Instagram Marketing Strategies

Now that that’s out of the way, here are some specific strategies for Instagram to help expand your reach and grow your brand.

    1. Use the newest features Instagram has to offer.

Instagram has been adding new features to compete with other social media platforms out there. For instance, they created Stories to compete with SnapChat. They created IGTV to compete with YouTube. Most recently, they’ve created Reels to compete with TikTok.

They will likely be doing this forever. So if you want a long-lasting strategy, do this. When Instagram releases a new feature or tool on their platform… use it.

There are two reasons this is effective.

    1. Instagram wants to test these new features on its users. So, if you use them early enough, your organic reach will be expanded drastically.
    2. These new features are going to be interesting to current users on the platform, and they may just hang around your content a bit longer, even if just for the sake of seeing the new feature. This will tell Instagram that your content is interesting and the algorithm will start favoring your content over others.

    2. Educate or Entertain, and Do It Now!

When it comes to creating content on the internet, our attention span has drastically dropped. So, in order to keep someone’s attention, you need to follow some rules. One of those rules is you must educate or entertain. Another rule is, to do this in 5 seconds or less. Now you don’t need to educate someone or throw out a punchline in 5 seconds, but I better know what I’m getting into, and fast.

    3. Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook

Direct advertising, with no value added, will drive potential customers away. Think about it… do you want to be bombarded with advertisements when you’re trying to “veg out” on Instagram? NO!

So, don’t do that to your customers either. Instead, create value-added content at 3-times the rate of your sales content. Meaning, provide value-added only for 3 posts, followed by a post that’s a little more direct with your Call to Action.

Gary Vaynerchuck, a highly successful serial entrepreneur, wrote an entire book about this concept called Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook (Affiliate Link). It’s a great book on how to work with Social Media platforms rather than trying to fight against them.
