While laying down to go to bed I realized, “crap, I forgot to write a blog post today.” As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I am attempting to blog everyday for the next 66 days. Now, just so you know why, the goal is to create a writing (more accurately, typing) habit. The average time it takes to create a habit is 66 days. So now you know.
Where There’s an App There’s a Way
Anyway, while in bed, having this dreadful realization, a thought popped in my head. “Is there an app for that?” Well it turns out, there is.
Seen here is the WordPress app on the App Store (ignore the 64 apps that need to be updated, haha). So immediately I went to download this and, well, I already had it…
So I simply entered my web address, logged into my account and voila! I’m here, in bed, writing a blog post on my phone. The future is nigh!
Never Give Up, Never Surrender
So the lesson here is that when you are trying to form a habit, it’s okay to slip up here and there. The important thing is to keep trying. If you forgot to go to the gym after work, don’t use it as an excuse to not work out. Do some push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, and squats. There are 7-Minute Workout apps that will get your heart pounding and work up a good sweat where the equipment needed is yourself, and at most a chair.
For me, I did not want to get out of bed to write a blog post, so I found a work around. Nonetheless, I got my post done for the day, shared a bit of knowledge, and did so while comfortably lying in bed. Some will say “that’s cheating” in the context of forming a habit, but it’s better than the other guy who decides, “Eh, I’ll do it tomorrow.” I’ll leave you with one final thought from one of the founding fathers:
“Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.”
